Waterway Restoration Volunteers Waterway Recovery Group (WRG), UK wide. WRG runs week-long residential volunteering opportunities, known as ‘Canal Camps’, to restore the derelict canals of England and Wales to their former glory. A chance to do your bit whilst having a fun holiday. They have 28 Canal Camps planned for 2017 giving volunteers the chance to get involved in various activities. Most run for seven days, each volunteer is asked to contribute £70 for the week for accommodation and three meals a day. Most accommodation, which is best described as basic, is in sports centres, schools or village halls. Anyone is welcome, but they must be over 18. No previous skills or experience are required. Saffron Pickers  Cheshire Saffron Company, Cuddington. The harvest normally lasts 3 – 4 weeks during October. Work is split 30% picking the flowers in an open field and 70% of removing the Saffron strands from the flowers in a workshop. Flexible hours. They anticipate processing 10am until 8pm each day, 7 days a week. The work is light but requires nimble fingers and good eyesight. It’s based in Cuddington near the railway station. Pay will be on the statuary Living Wage scale – according to age will be between £4.05 and £7.50 per hour – plus an attendance/ production bonus at the end of the harvest.
