King Street Energy - gas storage and brine pipes

There are concerns being raised about the pipelines, due to run between the King Street (SE Northwich) site and the Mersey estuary. They'll be carrying seawater one way, saltier seawater back.

One complaint we've heard is their proximity to Cuddington Brook, Crowton. Although rejected, the  applicant is appealing as of 20th January 2009. Comments made previously will be carried forward. Changes to those comments, their withdrawal, or further comments, needed to be submitted by 3rd March 2009 to the Planning Inspectorate, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN, quoting appeal reference APP/ZO645 A/08/2093465. (Any queries to Jon Sutcliffe, 01244 973135, plancontrol[at]cheshire.gov.uk.) Have a look at the low-definition maps in our Downloads section, see the 40MB high definition map on www.kingstreetenergy.com.
For the planning application, with documents, see http://tinyurl.com/KSE-plans
The applications for the 58km pipeline and the construction of 10 underground storage cavities had been refused locally, but the Secretary of State, following an appeal by the company, has ruled that the national need for gas storage outweighs other considerations.

  Grozone

Groundwork is working on a community project at Dane Nurseries, a council site left derelict for 15 years. Called 'Grozone', it's progressing as a welcoming green oasis for the community. It's providing activities to benefit health and wellbeing such as food growing and outdoor exercise, with possibilities for including a healthy food cafe, meeting space and new wildlife habitats.
Volunteers are meeting on Saturdays and Wednesdays, 10am - 3pm, to work on the site.
More details in our Downloads section, and at www.groundworkaction.org.uk/grozone

Recycling Newsletter

In Cheshire West and Chester's Sept '12 bulletin:

·          New collection calendars are being issued to Ellesmere Port, Neston and Chester homes, by post in week commencing 24th Sept. (When sent to Vale Royal residents, these arrived amongst Royal Mail delivered advertising, so were easily missed.)

·          New bins, boxes and food waste collection equipment are to be delivered to Chester residents by 7th Oct; this includes replacing the brown bins with black ones. Blue bins will be collected after the new system starts on 8th Oct.

·          Vale Royal’s recycling rate has risen to 70%; this may dip to 63% without summertime green waste.

·          The merits of recycling waste cooking oil (apart from the fact the energy content is equivalent to that used by 4 people in a day, my calculation).

·          The Waste Team and Chester's Grosvenor Museum have teamed up to deliver a drop in session about how the Romans dealt with food and food waste. Recipes, packaging, composting and sewage will be explained with ancient and modern objects and activities. Friday, 26 October between 2pm and 4pm

See the full newsletter on the CWAC website.
